Quant Surface Engine

The option surface you can drag, shock and read.

Every option on a stock, drawn as one 3D landscape: strike across, time back, price up. Drag it at sixty frames a second. Colour it by any Greek. Drop the stock twenty percent and watch fear change the shape. Then let the analyst tell you what you see, so what, and what the desk is thinking.

Who it is for

Two people stand in front of the same surface.

The learner who wants to see finance, not memorise it

You have read that puts cost more than calls and that volatility has a term structure. Here you drag a slider and watch the skew steepen. You turn on the gamma walls and see why a stock pins on a Friday. Thirty-three lessons walk from a ten-minute tour to reading a real snapshot and testing a signal, and each step asks you to do the thing on the surface before it counts as done.

  • Five tiers: Foundations, The shape of fear, Hidden forces, Topography, Real markets.
  • Every lesson step has five lines: what you see, so what, what the desk thinks, the sign to look for next time, and what it is in the world; a "Tell me more" under each; the control a step wants pulses until you press it.
  • A quiz at the end of each lesson, with the reason, and your scores kept.
  • Topology where it earns its place: curvature, ridges, coastlines, cracks, the surface behind the surface.

The serious trader who is tired of tables

A chain is a spreadsheet. A surface is the whole book at once: where the dealers are short gamma, where parity breaks, which expiry carries the event, how yesterday deformed into today and why. Real chains are folded nine times a day with provenance per node, so you know which part of the picture is real quotes and which part is interpolation.

  • Gamma walls, dealer pain, GEX per strike, vanna and charm flow, arbitrage fractures, calendar cracks.
  • Local volatility, the gamma-theta residual, the skeleton (level and skew per expiry), fingerprints, deformation fields.
  • A contract's whole life as a trail through every collected snapshot; gaps named, never filled.
  • Surface algebra: A − B, A ÷ B, ln(A ÷ B) across two stocks or two days. Your own quotes folded in, in your browser.
What you pay for

Not the data. The sight.

Delayed option quotes cost almost nothing; a vendor sells them for the price of lunch. What is scarce is a way to see a whole book at once, remember how it moved, learn what the shape means, and fold your own feed into the same lens. That is what the plans below price.

Sight

One object, every contract, sixty frames a second, in your browser. Nothing you drag waits for a server. Colour by any of six Greeks or a dozen research fields.

Memory

Two years of simulated days to drag through, real snapshots nine times a day, ghosts of any earlier state, trails of any contract, the crisis replay.

Teaching

A curriculum that starts at the axes and ends at research, where every claim is a formula the repository tests, and every lesson is done on the surface, not read about.

Your own data

A CSV, a broker key or a vendor feed becomes the same surface, with the same tools, with provenance per node. Computed in your browser; the server never has to see it.

Pricing

Four plans. One is free for good.

The simulated market, the first two tiers of lessons and the whole engine cost nothing and never will. Paid plans add the rest of the curriculum, real market data, your own feeds and the research tools. Real-data plans open to a waitlist until the data licence is signed; nobody is charged for a surface we are not yet allowed to sell.

Data

Three ways to put a market on the surface.

1. Ours, collected and folded

Nine times a trading day the collector reads Cboe's delayed option chains (every listed contract with bid, ask, implied volatility, open interest and volume, 15 minutes behind the market) and Yahoo's daily closes and earnings dates for sixteen names, and folds each chain into a volatility table over moneyness and expiry. Every node carries its provenance: how many quotes fed it, their spread, their open interest, whether it is thin. The page colours thin spots so you never mistake interpolation for a market.

Cadence

Terms
Personal, non-commercial use until licensed. This is why real-data plans are a waitlist, not a checkout.

2. Yours, in your browser

Drop a CSV of option quotes on the page. The browser normalises it, implies any missing volatilities from prices, builds the table and draws the surface. Nothing is uploaded. Every tool works on it: Greeks, walls, fractures, local volatility, algebra against a simulated or real ghost.

With Trader, a broker or vendor key does the same with a live chain: your entitlement, your browser, our lens. We never hold the key or the quotes unless you ask us to store a feed.

3. Yours, stored under your key

A desk that wants history keeps it with us: snapshots under its own key, invisible to anyone else, read by the same endpoints and the same page. Any source folds in through one record shape, so a Bloomberg bridge, a vendor API and a spreadsheet are the same object to the mathematics.

Real-time is served only through a feed you are entitled to. Redistributing real-time options data carries exchange fees of about $1,500 a month plus a fee per user; we do not add that to anyone's bill who does not need it.

A number on the page is a formula's output or carries its source. Every label says where it came from: "simulated", "real: Cboe delayed quotes", "your file". A model shown beside real data says "(model)". A day with no snapshot is shown as a gap.

The curriculum

From "what is this axis" to research, on the surface itself.

Every lesson is done, not read. A step sets the scene, says what you see, what it implies and what the desk makes of it, then asks you to do something on the surface before the next step opens. The curriculum is a living document; it grows with the tool.

Tier 1

Foundations

  1. Start here: ten minutes with the surface
  2. Before options: a price, a return, a distribution
  3. Before options: interest, time and the forward
  4. What the surface is
  5. The Greeks as colours
  6. Four contract spaces
  7. Puts, calls and parity
  8. Two years in a drag
Tier 2

The shape of fear

  1. Skew: why puts cost more
  2. Term structure: calm and panic
  3. The ghost of five days ago
  4. Tech, value, index: three shapes
  5. Total variance and calendar cracks
Tier 3

Hidden forces

  1. Gamma walls and dealer pain
  2. Fractures: when prices contradict each other
  3. Vanna and charm, the mechanical flows
  4. Max pain and the pin
  5. Delta coastlines and the cones
Tier 4

Topography

  1. Curvature and the ridge
  2. The surface behind the surface
  3. Where yesterday went: the deformation field
  4. Fingerprints: a surface in five numbers
  5. Surface algebra: A op B
  6. Layers and side by side
Tier 5

Real markets

  1. Reading a real snapshot
  2. Trust, measured: provenance
  3. Bring your own quotes
  4. Say it to the page
  5. Testing a sign
  6. A position, its Greeks and its P&L surface

How a lesson works

  • The page is set for you: stock, day, space, colours, overlays.
  • Four lines per step: what you see, so what, on the desk, the sign.
  • A task the page checks: turn on the walls, click a contract, drag the timeline past the crash, type a command.
  • A quiz with the reason, scores kept, lessons marked done.
  • Every step is a link you can send.

Where the topology comes in

Not as a subject, as a tool. Curvature tells you where a price bends fastest and so where gamma lives. Iso-delta lines are the coastlines traders quote skew on. Total variance must never fall as time grows, and where it does the surface has a crack. The deformation field between two days decomposes a move into the stock, volatility, time and the rest. Each appears in the lesson where it first explains something.

What is coming

  • A research track: arbitrage repair under the fair surface, sticky strike against sticky delta on real days, the earnings crush, implied correlation.
  • The earnings crush on real names as events pass.
  • Two real snapshots side by side.
  • A quiz bank and a printable lesson for classrooms.

Questions

Asked before paying.

Is the data real?
The free engine runs on a simulated market: eighteen stocks whose smiles, term structures and two years of days are generated by a model the repository tests, and every label says "simulated". The real surfaces come from Cboe's delayed chains and Yahoo's closes, collected nine times a trading day, and every label says so. We never show a made-up number as a market fact.
Why is real data a waitlist and not a checkout?
The chains we collect today are published for personal, non-commercial use. Selling a surface built on them needs a licence or a licensed vendor. Until it is signed, real data is shown only to the founders, and the plans that include it take names, not money. Your own file and your own feed are yours to use on any plan that includes them.
Does my data leave my browser?
Not unless you ask. A CSV is read by the page and never uploaded. A broker or vendor key is used by your browser to fetch your chain. Only a stored feed (Trader, one; Desk, unlimited) is kept by us, under your key, invisible to anyone else.
Will this tell me what to trade?
No. Lessons say what the formulas show. What a desk makes of a shape is written as the trade's reading, never as a prediction. The backtest lab exists to show you how much of a signal is noise, and it always shows the noise. Nothing here is financial advice.
How is it so fast?
Everything you drag is computed in your browser: the surface, the Greeks, the cones, the spine, the tracked contract, every overlay. The server is asked only for what is slow or needs a key, after a short pause, and its answer never blocks the drawing. The browser engine and the reference engine on the server agree to a millionth on every price, and a test proves it on every change.
What do students get?
Observer is free with no account, and holds the whole engine and the first ten lessons. A student address takes 40% off Learner and Trader. A classroom of twenty or more gets the Desk edition at $6 a student a semester with an instructor view.
Can I cancel?
Any month. Your lesson progress and saved views stay in your account; a stored feed is kept for 90 days after cancelling, then deleted.
Who builds this?
A small company: a founder who judges the product by using it, an architect who designs the mathematics, and an engineer who proves it. Every design is a claim until the proofs pass; about one claim in four has failed its proof so far, and the measured truth is what ships.
